Remembrance

At that time, most journeys made by emigrants were by land transport, which meant journeys that could take days and cost a significant part of their salary. In addition, paid holidays were not common, so visits to Spain were infrequent. In fact, they sometimes went for years without being able to spend a few days with their families.

This meant missing out on many occasions and living other moments away from their loved ones: weddings, birthdays, Christmas, births...

For this reason, the objects that reminded them of their own people ended up becoming much more than mere objects. To cure this homesickness, Spanish cultural associations were for many women places of refuge and connection with their roots.
